New Zealand colleges/institutes programmes are accredited at the level 2-9. However, Otago Polytechnic has the accreditation to run the programmes from levels 1-10.

Started in 1889 as a technical school, it expanded to become a technical college and later took over Dunedin School of Art and then went on further expansion to become Otago Polytechnic in 1966, as we know it now.

Campus: Otago Polytechnic has 3 campuses namely in Dunedin, Auckland and Central Otago. All the campuses offer a range of recreational and social activities organized which give a good exposure to the lifestyle there.

Dunedin Campus: Hospitality, languages and Fashion are major programmes taught here. Technique training institute is an initiative establishes by Otago Polytechnic’s School of Hospitality which trains future chefs, hotel managers and restaurant staff under the guidance of professionals. Also, there is a community learning center which offers free and inexpensive computer training to the public as well as holding short computing courses.

Central Otago Campus: The main Otago Polytechnic campus is situated here. The Otago Polytechnic campus here offers long and short courses in Cookery, Business, and Horticulture. Qualifications in Ski and Snowboard Instruction and Avalanche Safety are delivered from Cardrona Alpine Resort and Mount Aspiring College. Otago Polytechnic’s Central campus launched a qualification in high country farming in 2014, which is the only one of its kind in New Zealand.

Auckland International Campus: Professional qualifications in Business and Management, as well as National Diplomas in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying,op3 - OPI - Otago Polytechnic Institute, New Zealand are offered to international students here. The international campus is strategically established here as it is the biggest center of business and industry. Also, Auckland is rated for a good quality of life.

Scholarships at Otago Polytechnic:

Otago Polytechnic has the Fees Free scheme under which the first year of a student’s tertiary study is covered by the tertiary Education Commission (TEC) due to which there are no further scholarships on the tuition fees. However, some alternate options for students eligible for a scholarship.

Student Life at Otago Polytechnic:

OP has its main campus in Cromwell. It has other campuses situated in Dunedin and its international campus in Auckland. An independent Student Association (OPSA) is also present which provides access to many facilities and services.

Programmes Running:

The Charity House Project: It is a yearly initiative involving the Polytechnic’ architecture, building and engineering students. The fund raised by the services and auctioning of the house goes to the United Way NZ, which is non-profit organisation and further distributes the funds to Otago charities.

International Students:

Otago Polytechnic maintains a supportive environment for all of it’s students. As of 2014, Otago Polytechnic is an educational destination for it’s 30% international students from all over the globe.

Also, there is an English Language Centre which offers academic and general English courses to international students or migrants.

Accommodation: Otago Polytechnic provides a home away from home for students in need of accommodation.
